Step-by-step guide

How to Export ChatGPT to Word

ChatGPT does not export straight to Word. Use this three-step workflow to get a clean, editable .docx without losing headings, tables, or code.

1. Copy Markdown from ChatGPT

  1. Open your chat in ChatGPT (web or app).
  2. On the answer you want, click Copy (or select and copy).
  3. You now have Markdown on the clipboard — including lists and code fences when present.

2. Paste into ChatGPT2Word

  1. Open this sitechatgpt2word.pages.dev (or chatgpt2word.com once the custom domain is live) — or use the converter below.
  2. Paste into the left pane (or upload / drop a .md / .txt file). The right pane shows a live preview.
  3. Optional: click Paste sample to see a full example first. Drafts autosave in this browser.

3. Download, copy, or print to PDF

  1. Click Download .docx for a new Word file with real styles and editable equations.
  2. Or click Copy formatted and paste into an already-open Word / Google Docs document.
  3. Or Export PDF and choose “Save as PDF” in your browser’s print dialog.
  4. Open .docx in Microsoft Word, Word Online, Google Docs, or LibreOffice as needed.

Tips

  • Conversion runs in your browser; content is not uploaded for conversion. See Privacy.
  • Common LaTeX becomes editable Word equations (OMML). Dirty ( LaTeX ) wrappers are normalized when they look like math.
  • Same steps work for Claude, Gemini, and Grok.

Free forever for conversion

Markdown → Word runs entirely in your browser. No account, no upload, no paywall on the converter. That is the product — not a trial.

Optional roadmap (not required, not charged)

Ideas we may explore later — batch ZIP, custom Word templates, brand headers — only if they stay honest about privacy. Nothing here is sold or billed today. Core conversion stays free.
